The Battle with the Bear

First, if you haven’t read ‘The Real Problem,’ please go and read it first, otherwise this article will make no sense to you, because I am going to speak largely in the metaphor laid out there.

I am a man that believes in right and wrong, and that the devil is in the details. So I don’t deal too much in detail. What I intend to do is lay out a strategy.

We have to see to it there is an election in November, and we have to win it, big! We already know how the fox is going to vote, and we know how the rabbit is going to vote, so… that leaves the bear.

Our enemy is the fox and the bear. SO what do we do about them? First, we ignore the fox, for the time being, because the fox is evil. The fox is also small compared to the bear, and there are a lot more bears than foxes. So, we need to win over as many bears as possible. How do we do this?

Now I know you each have your favorite tar baby, and beat the hell out of them. But, when you beat up on someone, they have to defend themselves, natural law.

What did Jesus say about your enemy, love them? Yes. What else did he say about your enemy? “Agree with your enemy quickly”. What!!? Yes, he said agree with them quickly. He didn’t say go along with them, he said “agree with your enemy quickly.”

Back in 1936 a fellow named Dale Carnegie wrote a book called ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People,’ where he explained and developed this idea to the joy of many a salesman, and made many a salesman rich. Go and find it and read it, it’s a short easy read containing a wealth of information.

Stand firm on your convictions, but remember the language is a tool, view it that way, and make better use of it. Remember, in the film, the fox treats the beat with contempt, takes from him freely and presses him into service, while showing little respect for him. He has taught the bear a script, and anytime you argue with the bear, he knows just what to say, and he knows to say it loudly, growling the whole time. This causes you to go on the defense, and do no more than bark. Barking dogs don’t bite and the fox knows it.

Quick barking, quit struggling. Agree with the bear. Why? Because the bear isn’t prepared for you to agree with him, is will shut his mouth and open his ears. Then frame your argument as if to praise his idea, while at the same time spelling out the truth. Most of the bears are conservatives, they just don’t know it. As you spell it out, he will realize that’s not what he wants at all. Thus changing his mind will become his own idea, and we are much more comfortable with our own ideas. Which is more important, winning the argument, are winning votes?

Also, if you agree with him, and talk about his ideas and what he thinks, you will be showing him respect and courtesy, thus you will be treating him better than the fox. Let the bear do most of the talking, let him get his ideas out, and interject just so as to bring out the truth of the matter.

I urge you, if you want to win this election, then we have to win as many bears as we can over to our side. Go find the book ‘How to win Friends and Influence People, and wash yourselves clean of the tar baby, and engage the bear.

Notice, in neither of these articles have I used the word Republican

My next essay will be on how to deal with the fox, and the Republicans
